Devotional & Practical Thoughts from a Vineyard Church guy

The LORD is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the stronghold of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?
When evildoers assail me
to eat up my flesh,
my adversaries and foes,
it is they who stumble and fall.
Though an army encamp against me,
my heart shall not fear;
though war arise against me,
yet I will be confident.
Psalm 27:1-3

We know that each and every person in our city was made by God for a purpose: to receive the Love of God fully and completely in their lives. And yet the city remains occupied and oppressed by an enemy army. It is not a popular intellectual statement, but our city is currently under the influence of demonic powers. They manifest themselves through the abuse of the poor, weak, and young. They prey on the hopeless. They spread lies and deceit through every area. They abuse the basic human dignity given to each person by God. They are enemies of the Church and of God. They are actively trying to destroy the very people that God wants to love in this city. And they must be stopped.

Our prayers this morning served notice to these demons that God is on the move. Already we are seeing breakthrough. Already, prisoners from the enemy camp are running to embrace the Love of God. These are the initial droplets of a coming storm. What are we praying for? We want nothing less than a complete and total outpouring of God’s love that destroys our wildest imaginations and dreams of what Love can do. We want to see child abuse stop in our city. We want to see prisoners set free from demonic oppression, addiction to drugs, alcohol, and pornography. We want to see those who have given up on life and are contemplating suicide find new life in Jesus. We want to see a revival among the prisoners in Menard Penitentiary.

These goals are impossible for our church to accomplish but they are so needed. That is why they must be prayed. By praying them we serve notice to the forces of Satan, “When evildoers assail me to eat up my flesh, my adversaries and foes, it is they who stumble and fall.” The areas of darkness that Satan thought he had wrapped up will become strongholds of Love.

There is a very simple line in the sand, either the Love of God will be victorious in our city or the hatred of Satan will be and I believe the love of God will be victorious in my city today.
