“Because your love is better than life,
my lips will glorify you.”
Psalm 63:3

We continued to meditate on the mystery of God’s love during prayer this morning. We have adopted the Jesus phrase “according to your faith be it done unto you” but we have felt that the word to our body is “according to you love, be it done unto you.” As we ask God to use us to bless the city, He replies that He will pour as much of his love through us as we can stand.

We pray, “God use us to bless the homeless community.”
He replies, “I’ll bless the homeless through you to the extent that you have hearts of love for them.”

We pray, “God use us to care for the hurting and lonely children in this city.”
He replies “I’ll bring as many children to you as you are able to love.”

This begs the obvious question: how do we get more love? If the work of God being poured out through us to the least, the lost, and the lonely, depends on our capacity for God’s love, how do we increase the capacity? We can imagine that we are an electrical grid through the city. The source is eternal and overflowing. But the wires are ancient, worn, and underused. Our hearts are not very good conduits.

But we know that Jesus longs to be a torrent where there is capacity. God make our hearts capacity!
